Our Community, Statement of Faith

The Fall City United Methodist Church has always openly embraced the concept of "Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors."  ALL have been welcome in our church.

That being said we would like to share a statement of faith written by our church leadership and passed unanimously by church members on April 14, 2019.

This is  our response to our denomination's Special Session held in February 26, 2019 in St. Louis, Missouri.
We find the statements made and adopted at that conference unacceptable .

Our church's statement of belief is as follows:

"We the Fall City United Methodist Church embrace the concept of Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.  We affirm that ALL people are created in the image of God and as beloved children of God, are worthy of God's love and grace.  Our faith moves us to welcome ALL PERSONS of every age, gender, identification, racial or ethnic background, sexual orientation, marital or economic status, physical or mental ability to FULL PARTICIPATION in our Faith Community.  We invite all people in our journey toward greater understanding, mutual respect and reconciliation through Christ

To our LGBTQIA+ family, friends and community members,  You are beautiful expressions of the diversity of God's creation and the children of God...loved and called to service in a world that dearly needs you.  We remain committed to full inclusion of God's LGBTQIA+ people in the life of FCUMC and in the greater works of the United Methodist Church.  We support our UMC clergy in this work/mission.  We believe that all LGBTQIA+ people and clergy deserve full rights in our church and the world.

Why bother with church?

Christ is like water to thirst, bread to hunger, healing to hurt… connecting around this center makes a world of difference. Church is imperfect people gradually coming to know, trust, and reflect a perfect LORD. Why bother with church? Because God calls us to relationship with God and each other. Because love grows in and through community until all the world is healed and whole.

What do we believe?

While engaging the depths of traditional Christianity, we honor a diversity of perspectives and experiences of God. “Devising formal definitions of doctrine has been less pressing for United Methodists than summoning people to faith and nurturing them in the knowledge and love of God.” (United Methodist Book of Discipline, paragraph 101.) We value scripture, tradition, life-experience, and human reason as vital resources for today’s world.
